Balloon and Paragliding Safety in Marrakech
Flying is not risk-free and we will not tell you it is. What we can explain is how those risks are managed, what a pilot is deciding on the morning, and what your own responsibilities are. Where a detail depends on our operator's documented procedures and we have not yet seen it in writing, we say so rather than fill the gap.
Hot air balloon safety
Weather decides first
Surface and upper wind, visibility and the forecast for the landing window are assessed before inflation. A cancelled launch is the system working.
Pre-flight checks
Envelope, burners, fuel lines, cylinders and instruments are checked during inflation, in front of you.
Passenger briefing
Boarding, where to stand, what to hold, and the landing brace position. Two minutes, and it is the whole of what you need.
Landing
Landings can be upright or with a bump and short slide depending on wind. Both are normal; the brace position is why.
Your responsibilities
Stay inside the basket, secure loose items, follow the pilot's instructions, and declare relevant medical conditions in advance.
Children and mobility
Minimum age and mobility requirements are operator-set. Ask us before booking; we will confirm rather than assume.
Paragliding safety
The pilot is the safety system
Tandem flying requires a qualification beyond a solo licence. Ask which one your pilot holds — any good operator answers immediately.
Equipment
Helmet, certified tandem harness and reserve parachute, with harness, carabiners and lines checked before every launch.
Conditions
Wind strength and direction relative to the launch slope, thermal activity and cloud all decide the site and the slot.
Launch and landing
You walk, then jog a few steps; at landing you lift your legs on command. That is the extent of your input.
Medical and physical
Recent surgery, back and neck problems, heart conditions and pregnancy need medical advice first. Weight must be inside the wing's certified range.
Your responsibilities
Give your real weight, declare medical conditions, wear proper shoes, and keep walking at launch until the pilot says stop.
What we have not yet published
Pilot licences and ratings, insurance provider and coverage, maximum basket occupancy, documented weather limits, and equipment maintenance schedules are all awaiting written confirmation from our operating partner. They will be published here in full, with specifics, as soon as we have them. We will not publish a safety claim we cannot evidence — and no operator anywhere should tell you an activity is “100% safe”.
