Atlas Mountains Paragliding from Marrakech: A Complete Guide

The mountains south of Marrakech are the reason people fly here rather than somewhere flatter. Here is what a foothill flying day involves.

The terrain

Dry ochre ridges, terraced valleys and villages below, with higher Atlas peaks behind. Visually it is very different from the flat plain the balloons cross north of the city.

Time commitment

Plan a half day. The drive out, the walk to launch, waiting for the right cycle of conditions, the flight itself and the drive back all add up. Exact drive times for our operator's sites are pending confirmation.

Conditions in the foothills

Mountain air changes through the day. Pilots pick the site and the slot to match the wind direction, which is why the confirmed meeting time can move.

Who it suits

  • • Travellers who want scenery over convenience
  • • Anyone comfortable with a half-day commitment
  • • People who would rather fly in mountain terrain than over flat ground
